Careful coding that complies with recognised standards ensures that your web site is reliably rendered by all browsers in common use. By contrast, sites that use non-standard code may be inaccessible to some users or search engines, and may have limited life as browsers are updated.
Technical standards for the Web are maintained by the World Wide Web Consortium ( W3C), who provide protocols, education and tools for web developers.
